Hello, from sunny South Africa, writing evidence-based med comms for the world! I aim to improve physician health and patient outcomes by addressing the complex relationship between trauma, health, and well-being. Other disciplines that I love are mental health and women's health.

MY FULL STORY

For over twenty years, I served as a physician in the vibrant yet challenging landscape of South Africa.

My career in medicine was deeply shaped not just by the patients and conditions I treated but by my own journey as a trauma survivor. An armed robbery at my practice finally tipped the scales in 2018. Forced to confront the profound impact of trauma on health—both my patients’ and my own —I was ready to make a change.

Sitting on both sides of the desk, in turn, I gained even more insight into the limitations of traditional medical approaches. I saw firsthand that pharmaceuticals, while essential, couldn’t work alone to heal trauma or its lingering effects. I knew there had to be a better way to address each person as a whole, taking into account their mental, familial, spiritual, and societal contexts—I had to treat myself and others as more than just a collection of symptoms.

In 2023, I pivoted towards freelance medical writing. Specializing in trauma-informed care, my work focuses on integrating a deeper understanding of trauma into everyday health practices. By articulating the complex interplay between trauma, health, and well-being, I aim to transform how care is delivered, ensuring it is as compassionate and comprehensive as it is medically sound.

Partnering with organizations across healthcare and social sectors, I educate patients on trauma and empower healthcare professionals to foster compassionate healing environments while maintaining a protective distance between myself and the direct emotional impact of trauma. Now contributing to healthcare in a more aligned and sustainable manner, I am driven and excited to inspire widespread adoption of trauma-informed practices in diverse population groups.
